Guided Ruffed Grouse Hunt

The ruffed grouse is one of the most challenging game birds found anywhere and experienced grouse hunters measure success in flushes, not only birds in the pouch. The cover is thick and shooting opportunities (there are no gimmes.) Grouse will test your skills with a shotgun as well as your physical and mental determination. It is not easy and each bird you harvest with a great dog is special. I can adjust the start and finish time to accommodate your schedule but try to plan for a full day – you typically must earn your chances with grouse and covering many miles is the norm.

Limited Openings

I have a limited number of days in October available. This is for hunters who enjoy a day in the northern Michigan woods behind great dogs, but who don’t currently have bird dogs or the time to scout.

Things To Bring

• Comfortable boots and clothing appropriate for the weather
• Size 8 or 7-1/2 shot shells
• Valid small game license with Harvest Information Program (HIP) endorsement. The HIP endorsement is required for all migratory birds including woodcock — there is no additional fee but you need to request this when your license is purchased
• Shooting/safety glasses
• Blaze orange hat and shirt or vest
• Pump and autoloader shotguns must be plugged to hold no more than three shells

• Full days guided hunting behind experienced bird dogs
